THE BOWL IS CAST BRONZE AND IS BALLASTED WITH LEAD TO DECREASE IT'S MOTION WHEN THE SHIP IS ROLLING. THE COMPASS IS FILLED WITH ALCOHOL AND DISTILLED WATER AND HAS AN EXPANSION CHAMBER.
